Visual artist and producer wa55up creates surreal spectacles

“Burnt”
26 year old visual artist and producer by the name wa55up has dedicated a majority of his life honing in on his natural talent, “At this point,” he told us, “I’ve been drawing compulsively for 20 years.” Boasting an eclectic collection, wa55up’s artistic style is hard to pin down, yet distinctively his. Ranging from realistic portraits, abstract album art, to surreal illustrations wa55up has certainly come into his own technique. Each piece evokes a unique energy that can be clearly felt and seen.
“Robo Arms”
Like many artists, wa55up displayed signs of his gift from an early age. “Ever since I was a little kid the only thing that could ever keep me quiet was a pencil in my hand and a piece of paper,” he recalls, “Either that or drumming on things, I loved that but the people who were in my immediate vicinity, didn’t love it as much.”

Much of his work is influenced by science fiction, he informed “Along with the cartoons and anime that I spend a lot of time watching.”
“Hands Web”
All about self improvement, wa55up likes to, ”Look at the work of others who work in a similar vein in order to compare and contrast the difference in approach and technique. It really helps me refine techniques and concepts. It’s like using a point of reference in order to self-critique.”
“Ka”
“To me, drawing is an outlet and probably the only way I can really relax. I just want to make cool stuff.” His motivation is his, "own enjoyment, and I hope others enjoy it too. I don’t want to be pretentious about it, because it becomes harder to enjoy.”
